Question Wherein did Christ’s humiliation consist?
Answer Christ’s humiliation consisted in his being born, and that in a low condition, 1 made under the law, 2 undergoing the miseries of this life, 3 the wrath of God, 4 and the cursed death of the cross; 5 in being buried, 6 and continuing under the power of death for a time. 7

Did Christ humble himself?
Yes.

He made himself of no reputation,
Philippians 2:7

And was it requisite that he should do so?
Yes.

For thus it was written and thus it behoved Christ to suffer,
Luke 24:46

Did he humble himself in his birth?
Yes.

He took upon him the form of a servant,
Philippians 2:7

Was he born of a poor stock?
Yes.

He was a root out of a dry ground,
Isaiah 53:2

And in a poor place?
Yes.

Bethlehem was little among the thousands of Judah,
Micah 5:2

Was he poorly provided for?
Yes.

She brought forth her first born, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger,
Luke 2:7

Was this widely different from his former estate?
Yes.

For he was rich, though for our sakes he became poor,

Was Christ made under the law?
Yes.

He was made of a woman, made under the law,
Galatians 4:4

Was he circumcised?
Yes.

He was circumcised the eighth day,

Was he thereby obliged to keep the whole law?

Did Christ die to display the justice and holiness of God?

To declare his righteousness that he might be just,

For sin he condemned sin in the flesh,

And to set us an example of patience and resignation to the divine will?
Yes.

For as much as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind,

Was Christ buried?

And that he was buried,

Was he buried at another’s expense?
Yes.

And when Joseph had taken the body he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own tomb,

Did he continue under the power of death for a time?
Yes.

So shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth,

And was this a part of Christ’s humiliation?
Yes.

Thou hast brought me into the dust of death,

Should the sufferings of Christ make sinners tremble?
Yes.

If they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

And the saints rejoice?

Answer The estate of Christ's humiliation was that low condition, wherein he for our sakes, emptying himself of his glory, took upon him the form of a servant, in his conception and birth, life, death, and after his death, until his resurrection. 1

Answer Christ humbled himself in his conception and birth, in that, being from all eternity the Son of God, in the bosom of the Father, he was pleased in the fulness of time to become the son of man, made of a woman of low estate, and to be born of her; with divers circumstances of more than ordinary abasement. 1
